More than 200 volunteers from around the city and across the nation turned out for the "Day of Service" to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday. West Seattle Elementary was one of two sites in Seattle where painting, gardening, and general clean up and repair work was done. Governor Christine Gregoire, Congressman Jim McDermott, other local dignitaries and representatives from Comcast and Home Depot came to speak and recognize the participants service. Echoing the theme of the day "Make it a Day ON, Not a Day Off!" the Governor spoke about Dr. King's eloquence and dedication to a life of service to others.
