Give that winter-weary garden a makeover with uncommon plants and bargains from the fifth annual Bloomin' Burien Plant Sale.
Sponsored by Grassroots Home and Garden and the Discover Burien Association, the sale on the sidewalks of Olde Burien runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 9 and May 10.
Expect the unusual at Grassroots, according to owner Tina Larson.
"We're getting in a shipment of rose bushes in blues and purples that are new to the market," Larson said.
The shop will also feature carnivorous plants and collector's plants, including small starts that are more affordable. A professional gardener and garden designer for 15 years, Larson will also give advice on those thorny gardening dilemmas.
With an emphasis on organics, from vegetable starts to fertilizers, Larson buys everything from independent local growers.
That, Larson noted, "ensures high quality and shrinks Grassroots' carbon footprint."
Snap up some great deals on bedding plants at the nonprofit Discover Burien Association tables. The profits on items sold by Discover Burien will go to that organization, according to Debra George of Marketing Innovations, which is coordinating the event for Discover Burien.
Look for the sale along Southwest 152nd Street between Ambaum Boulevard Southwest and 10th Avenue Southwest.
Also on May 10 sample the arts, from culinary to visual, during the Spring Stroll, which extends further down Southwest 152nd Street to Second Avenue Southwest. (See Page 1.)
