Savor some local culture, from visual to culinary, during Burien's fifth annual Spring Stroll on Saturday, May 10.
Sponsored by the Discover Burien Association, the event offers a taste of the work of artists plus food, wine, beer and arts-related events representative of the businesses where they are located.
Activities and artists will be stationed both outside and inside businesses marked with balloons along Southwest 152nd Street in downtown Burien. Many activities and samples are free, but in a few cases there will be a small charge.
On the list of this year's visual arts are pieces by a master woodcarver, watercolors, oil paintings, fused and hand-blown glass, photographs and more. Glass is making a strong showing in the jewelry arena with hand-blown glass pendants and fused glass with silver.
Not just for adults this year, the kids can explore their artistic leanings with arts and crafts activities at Goodie Gumdrops toy store.
Goodie Gumdrops is supplying soda samples while B-Town Scoop offers locally made Olympic Mountain ice cream.
Wine and draft beer will also be available at various restaurants and wine establishments, including Poggi Bonsi Cucina, Vino Bello, Mark Restaurant & Bar and Elliott Bay Brewery & Pub.
Burien restaurants and other food-related shops will dish up tastes of their cuisine. Among the newcomers to the event, Hey Paison! will serve samples that can be enjoyed while perusing the owner's Frank Sinatra collection.
While not technically on Southwest 152nd Street, just around the corner on Sixth Avenue Southwest Sal's Deli will participate in the stroll with hand-blown glass by Trish Knowles.
Back in Olde Burien, a trunk show at Optimark Eyecare will benefit the Highline Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.
The stroll will be situated primarily on Southwest 152nd Street between Fourth Avenue Southwest and 10th Avenue Southwest.
A detailed map of stroll activities will be available at the information booth at the corner of Ninth Avenue Southwest and Southwest 152nd Street.
Olde Burien merchants will also be offering a "Bloomin' Plant Sale" with uncommon plants and other items on May 9 and 10. (See story on page 2 .)
