SeaTac will begin looking for an architect to design the new Fire Station 45 that will be built on South 200 Street, across the street from its current location. The current firehouse will become a parking lot when the new one is built.
The plans to design and rebuild the South 200th station were put on hold by the city council last year in order to learn from the construction of the McMicken Heights station as well as finding out the results of a consultant's report, according to Deputy Mayor Gene Fisher.
"I think we've learned some good lessons," Fisher said.
One of the improvements over the McMicken Heights station that Fisher would like considered in the design of is the use of "green" materials.
He also said it appears that the McMicken Heights station will run over budget, due to items cut that will have to be added later.
To prevent this, he would like all building options included in the design plan, which would be reviewed by a committee that would include the fire chief and firefighters.
All three Sea-Tac fire stations were slated to be rebuilt after a seismic study in 2005 found them to be structurally unfit to withstand a major earthquake.
