On Sept. 30, the Seattle City Council Transportation Committee gave two of the four streetcar lines proposed by the Seattle Department of Transportation last spring priority status. The line connecting Ballard to Fremont was not one of them.
The First Hill line was made a priority because funding for it could come from Sound Transit if Proposition 1 passes in November, said Jodie Vice, legislative aide to transportation committee chair Jan Drago.
Vice said the central line, which would travel along 1st Avenue downtown, was also made a priority because a streetcar figures into five of the eight plans being discussed concerning the viaduct. Funding for that line could possibly come from money for the viaduct project, she said.
The Ballard/Fremont and University District lines will still be included with the other two as a package when the council votes on the streetcar resolution in December, Vice said.
