This is the third annual GREEN SEATTLE DAY. Come out and join more than 600 volunteers for a fun day of planting to restore Seattle's forested parklands! Seattle residents will be volunteering at one of 19 parks across the city, including Camp Long.
Celebrate the beginning of planting season by volunteering and having some fun with friends and neighbors. Meet new people in the community; plant trees and shrubs; and learn all about restoring and maintaining the forested parklands of Seattle.
Planting season in the northwest is best in the fall so that roots have time to strengthen themselves. Plant roots grow better in the fall because of the cooler air so that less energy is put toward leaf and stem growth. The northwest also has relatively warm soil temperatures in the fall. Both allow plant roots to grow faster reducing transplant shock. By summer, well established plant roots help to decrease the amount of water needed during our dry season months. In addition to the ideal growing conditions, the fall rains can keep plants watered and healthy without a lot of human toil.
Concert: As a special thank you to all participants, Green Seattle Day volunteers (21+) will be invited to a special evening of music with Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard and the Roy K Trio, the Saturday Nights, DJ Bean One, DJ Kippy, the Maldives, Scribes, Sam the Human Beat Box and many more. Billed as the Twisted Green Seattle Day After Party, we hope everyone can join us at King Cobra for an evening of country hip hop mashup celebrating all of Seattle's amazing forest volunteers. Volunteers only reception at 6 pm. Doors at 7:00 pm, Show at 8:00 pm.
