The access road to Golden Gardens, damaged by winter weather, will not be open until repairs are completed in February.
Due to the recent snow storm the city is delaying repairs to Golden Gardens Drive, which collapsed December 2007. The damaged roadway was supposed to be repaired last month but now the Seattle Transportation Department expects to finish the work by mid-February.
Working with Seattle Transportation, the Golden Gardens Association, a newly formed group in August, gave their input to how they would like the road to be rebuilt due to concerns of pedestrian and driver safety along the frequently traveled road.
"People had concerns about how fast our neighbors and visitors to the area drove through our neighborhood," Mary Tott, one of the founders of the association previously told the News-Tribune. "Traffic speed and pedestrians at risk was looked at along Golden Gardens Drive because there are far more stories of people getting injured along there as a pedestrian that weren't reported to police."
Currently the roadway has been paved, a retaining wall and guard wall has been installed but work on the asphalt berming- ridge of asphalt at the roadway edge to channel drainage-is still pending due to the delay in delivery of materials from the weather said Marybeth Turner, spokeswoman for Seattle Department of Transportation.
"It sounds like a great deal of work has already been completed so it's near completion," Turner said.
