Heavy rains pummeled Federal Way last week, leaving many in the low-lying areas seeking refuge from the rising water. In Milton, where this photo was taken, road crews blocked access when tributaries of Hylebos Creek left their banks. As of last Thursday WSDOT had also closed two lanes of southbound I-5 due to the rising of Hylebos Creek.

Commuters on I-5 battled wet roads as heavy rains pounded Federal Way and the surrounding areas last week. Much of the city was spared from the flooding that devastated many communities in other watersheds, with the exception of the low-lying areas around Milton and Hylebos Creek. Last Wednesday, WSDOT closed two south-bound lanes of I-5 do to flooding waters from Hylebos Creek. The National Weather Service predicts more rain for early Monday and Tuesday, but not in the amounts experienced during last week's storms.
