Gertrude Matilda Bonner (her full name) is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who used to be shy but now isn't and who used to be tiny but now is larger than she thinks. She can still wriggle under the bed...but can't get out without help.
Gertrude is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who belongs to Claire Bonner, and Gertrude is one year old. "I got her when she was six weeks old in Kelso, from a friend. She was the runt of the litter that they couldn't get rid of and I offered some money and they said ok. I fell in love with her because of her pretty little face and she was so shy. She was tiny too, even now she's really small for her breed."
Gertrude has overcome her shyness now and readily licks anyone within reach but she may have body image issues. "When she was little she used to climb underneath my bed because she was really small," explained Bonner, "and she still does, but she gets stuck. Then she just wiggles around and she can't get out until she whines for me and I have to pull her out. It's really kind of pathetic and you just see her head and her feet and she's trying so hard."
Gertrude has "tons of friends" and often goes to the Westcrest Dog Park. "Her best friend is her sister dog, a black lab named Zita, she follows her around and herds her because she thinks she's like a big black cow or something." Corgis are herding dogs so she "runs around and makes sure she's going the right way at all times," continued Bonner.
Treats Gertrude favors include raw turkey necks. "Sometimes she has a raw food diet," Bonner said, "so I'll go and get packaged turkey necks, they're frozen and you take them out one at a time." These are available at Mud Bay and other pet supply companies with freezer sections that carry raw food.
