Sarver scores eight in win

West Seattle graduate Grace Sarver enjoyed a big game for the Washington State University women's basketball team Wednesday, scoring eight points to go with three rebounds, one assist and one steal in 25 minutes of play.

Sarver's efforts helped the Cougars post a 70-63 win over Houston.

Huskies ready for Alamo Bowl

Five local players are with the University of Washington football team as it travels to San Antonio, Texas for Thursday's Alamo Bowl.

Coming from Kennedy Catholic on the Huskies' roster are sophomore linebacker Sav'ell Smalls and redshirt freshmen Sam Huard, Junior Alexander and Jabez Tinae.

Huard is a highly regarded backup quarterback at this point, while Alexander and Tinae are wide receivers.

Owen Coutts is a sophomore tight end from Ballard.

Smalls had 13 tackles this year including seven solo efforts and six assists.

Huard was a perfect 2-for-2 passing for 24 total yards in his relief role.

The Huskies take on the Texas Longhorns at 6 p.m. in a game televised on ESPN.

Junk traded to Milwaukee

Decatur graduate Janson Junk was traded from the Los Angeles Angels to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Junk is a pitcher who graduated from high school in 2014.

Eagle grads play in NBA

Federal Way graduates Jaden and Jalen McDaniels have both found a niche playing in the National Basketball Association.

Jaden is a University of Washington graduate now with the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Jalen is a San Diego State graduate now with the Charlotte Hornets.

New Stars have connections

Two new members of the Tacoma Stars professional indoor soccer team out of the Showare Center in Kent boast local connections, having played for Highline College in Des Moines.

Baumgardt is a Federal Way graduate who played one year for the Thunderbirds before going on to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Lozano hails from Acapulco in Mexico but spent two seasons at Highline College before playing two for Pacific Lutheran University.

Presley born in Federal Way

Federal Way native and Rainier Beach player Caleb Presley has signed on to play football at the University of Washington.

Presley is a cornerback regarded as the No. 1 recruit in the state this year.  He chose the UW in a last minute change from Oregon on early signing day this past Wednesday.
