Boys golf
State
Ballard junior Lucas Williams scored a second place finish at the Class 3A state tournament that took place Tuesday and Wednesday at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane.
Williams shot a round of 72 the first day and lowered his score to 71 the second for a total of 143.
Winston Aso of Seattle Christian, meanwhile, was playing in the Class 1A tournament at nearby Liberty Lake, tying for seventh with a 75 and a 78 for a two day total of 153.
Dixon Fain of Mount Rainier outshot him with a 75 and a 76 at Hawks Prairie in Lacey for a two day total of 151, but in that field it was only good for 18th place.
Praxton Drago of Chief Sealth tied for 17th at the Class 2A tournament at the Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis, shooting an 82 and a 77 for a total of 159.
Going to the state Class 3A tournament but not making the cut to get past the first day were Svensgaard Swanson and Matthew Wesche of Ballard with rounds of 85.
Cameron Fitterer of West Seattle turned in a 91 in the same tournament to also miss as Ballard's James Sand finished with a 94 and Ballard's Owen Cutting with a 96.
Missing in the 2A tournament were Chief Sealth's Teo Perala with a 95 and teammate Nolan Vanbuskirk with a 105.
Girls golf
State
Ginevra Saloy of Seattle Christian finished fourth in the Class 1A tournament played at Liberty Lake with rounds of 80 and 76 for a 156 total.
Kennedy Catholic's Eva Rochex turned in a 93 and a 96 for a 189 at the Eagles Pride course in DuPont for a 57th place Class 4A tie.
Julie Huynh of Evergreen missed the first day cut to reach the second day of 2A play at Tumwater Valley with a 139.
Kennedy Catholic's Mailee Khampradith had a 113 to miss in Class 4A action.
Baseball
West Seattle 4, University 3
The Wildcats won by one in a state Class 3A pigtail playoff Tuesday to reach Saturday's regional level.
West Seattle battles the Gig Harbor Tides in a 1 p.m. opener at Lincoln of Tacoma and must win that and a game to follow to reach next Friday's state semifinals.
Boys soccer
Bainbridge 3, Foster 1
Top-seeded and homestanding Bainbridge beat the Bulldogs in a Wednesday state Class 2A opening round match.
Kent-Meridian 2, Ballard 1
Ballard also hit the road for its state opener played Tuesday and lost to the Royals in Class 2A action.
