Getting around the region this summer is about to get easier and more rewarding. The popular “Bike and Scoot to Transit” program has returned for 2025, offering residents and commuters the chance to earn free bike, scooter, and transit trips. The program, a partnership between King County Metro, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), and Sound Transit, along with companies Bird, Lime, Siemens, and Velocia, has been expanded this year to include even more transit hubs in Redmond, Seattle, and Shoreline.
The initiative encourages people to connect shared bikes and scooters from Lime or Bird to transit services, multiplying the power of transit. By riding a Lime or Bird bike or scooter and ending the trip at designated parking spots at a participating transit hub, users can earn valuable rewards. This offers a convenient way to get around during a busy summer expected to include major events like the FIFA Men’s Club World Cup and large construction projects like WSDOT’s Revive I-5.
Participation is straightforward. Users need to download the Transit GO Ticket app and sign up for "Rewards," then connect their Lime or Bird accounts. Connecting accounts instantly earns 150 points for each connection3. Ending a bike or scooter ride at one of the designated parking spots at a participating transit hub earns 300 reward points. These points can be used to pay for the user's next Link or bus trip3. Additionally, activating a transit ticket within 24 hours earns an additional 700 points, which can be redeemed for $7 worth of bike or scooter ride credits. Users can also earn 150 points by participating in a short survey about their experience after completing a qualifying trip, which helps improve the program4. The points earned can be redeemed across a range of transportation options including Bird, King County Metro, Lime, and Sound Transit.
New locations have been added for 2025. These include all Sound Transit Link light rail stations in Redmond, Seattle, and Shoreline (including new stations), the Aurora Village Transit Center in Shoreline at 1524 N 200th St (New!), and Select RapidRide H Line stations along Delridge Way SW (New!). More detailed instructions are available on the program’s webpage.
Officials highlighted the benefits of the program in connecting communities and offering flexible travel options. Lauren Squires, Connecting to Transit Program Manager at King County Metro, commented, “At King County Metro, we’re more than just a transit agency — we’re in the business of connecting people to life’s opportunities. Shared micromobility—like bikes and scooters—multiplies the power of transit, turning a long walk to the bus or train into a quick and easy ride. It’s all about giving riders more freedom, more flexibility, and more reasons to leave the car behind. Our customers tell us loud and clear: When those first and last-mile connections are easy and affordable, they choose transit more often.”.
Becky Edmonds, Shared Mobility Program Manager at Seattle Department of Transportation, added, “Biking, scooting, and riding transit are a great combination that offer convenient and environmentally friendly ways to get around. We hope that this incentive for riders to earn free transit credits and discounts on bike and scooter trips will make it easier for people to get to transit stations and encourage folks to try new ways to travel, especially during the busy summer event season.”.
To support the program and improve the transfer experience, more bike and scooter parking spots have been added near many transit hubs. These spots help keep stations and nearby sidewalks accessible. SDOT has also partnered with scooter and bike share companies to give away more than 13,000 free helmets since 20224. Information on how to get a free helmet is available.
The "Bike and Scoot to Transit" program began in 2022 and is a partnership between King County Metro, SDOT, Sound Transit, Bird, Lime, Siemens, and Velocia. Residents are encouraged to utilize this expanded program for convenient and rewarding travel throughout the summer.
