Seattle vintage stores band together to boycott the online vintage sales platform Etsy for violating their hateful content policy and allowing the sale of “alligator alcatraz” merchandise.
The six undersigned businesses of the Seattle vintage, homemade & resale shopping community denounce the negligence of Etsy, Inc. to uphold their own policy against Discrimination and Hateful Content toward people of a protected class, in this case immigration status. We believe it is our duty to speak up against injustice and uphold our values within the business community. We know that boycotts have historically proven to be a successful method to create positive social change. Our goal is to set a precedent with Etsy, inc. That holds corporations accountable to the will of the people, not to shareholders in for-profit detention centers, or other harm causing industries.
We call on other stores, vendors and shoppers to join us and boycott all selling and purchasing through the etsy platform until the following demands have been met by Etsy: 1. 2. 3. remove all hateful content against immigrants via the harmful ”alligator alcatraz” rhetoric acknowledge the harm caused by this negligence in a public apology present a plan for how to enforce this policy moving forward.
