Ski Report: Another Weekend, Another Mixed Bag (But some precipitation!)

By Ethan MacNamara
Precipitation has finally hit the PNW, but warmer temps will lead to heavy snow when it falls and rain. Expect variable conditions across all Washington resorts, and continue using your rock skis!
Summit at Snoqualmie
Weekend Weather- Temps: 42°/33° Sunny Skies on Sat, Cloudy with rain and small chance of morning snow on Sunday.
A couple of inches of snow fell at Summit midweek, but warm temps continue to hit the mountain. Summit has trimmed operations back. West will be open 9am-9:30pm Mon-Sat, and 9-4:30pm on Sunday. Only beginner, carpet served terrain will be open at Central, while Silver Fir, East, and the Nordic Center will be closed until snow conditions improve. Continue to rock with your rock skis/boards, and stick to popular, groomed runs for the best coverage. Alpental’s higher elevation may provide for a bit more snow accumulation on Sunday than at Summit.
Alpental
Weekend Weather- Temps: 39°/30°Sat: Foggy, chance of snow late at night. Sun: Cloudy, snow in the morning, potentially 1-3 inches depending on elevation, rain in the afternoon and evening.
Alpental’s coverage continues to struggle. Expect firm conditions, rocks just under the snow, and no groomed route down from the top. Most of the mountain is “expert’s only” terrain.
Sunday morning may provide some fresh, but heavy, snow. For best conditions, hit Alpental in the morning before the rain comes in. And use your rock boards/skis!!
Stevens Pass
Weekend Weather- Temps: 38°/30°, Sat: Mostly cloudy, some rain in the evening/night. Sun: Snow in the morning, transitioning to rain in the afternoon.
Precipitation has returned to Stevens Pass, with a couple inches falling on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, temps are warming back up this weekend, leading to Sunday’s snowfall gradually turning into rain in the afternoon. For best conditions, try and hit Stevens Pass on Sunday morning, when the lifts open. Stevens has opened Tye Mill and Seventh Heaven this weekend, but the Double Diamond lift above Khers Chair remains closed. Expect variable conditions and a firm snowpack under any fresh snow. Keep riding your boards and skis that have a few battle scars and have fun!
Crystal Mtn
Weekend Weather- Temps: 43°/29°- Sat: Mostly Sunny, with clouds and a chance of a small bit of snow overnight. Sun: Some snow throughout the day, temps just above freezing.
Crystal Mtn received a bit of snow over the weekend, and that has helped to improve conditions on the mountain, but expect variable conditions, and ride your rock skis or board, especially if venturing off piste. Sunday may see around an inch of new accumulation throughout the day- so skiing will be best at Crystal on Sunday and Monday with a snow refresh. Chair 6 and Southback have re-opened for this weekend! Gold Hills and Northway remain closed due to snow coverage. Expect Crystal to have some of the best conditions of the local mountains this weekend.
Mission Ridge
Weekend Weather- Temps: 36°/27° - Sat: Mostly sunny skies. Sun: Some snow, around ½ inch, with a little more expected on Monday.
Mission Ridge has only received trace amounts of new snow over the week, and expect that to continue for Sunday and Monday. Mission will be open for day and night skiing this weekend. Expect softening conditions on runs throughout the day as the Mountain warms, and then firm, icy conditions for night skiing. While most off piste terrain and many runs are closed, the snowmaking on Mission Ridge groomers that are open is excellent. Sunday would be the best day to ski at Mission, as they will receive a light dusting of snow.
White Pass
Weekend Weather- Temps 43°/29° - Sat: Partly Sunny, chance of rain/snow at night.
White Pass received a few inches of snow over the week, but warmer temps and a a general lack of snowfall still prevail. All lifts are running at White Pass, but the Steeps continue to be closed due to a lack of snow coverage. As with the other mountains, we strongly recommend using your rock skis as there are many obstacles hiding just underneath the snow. Watch out for sharks!
Mt Baker
Weekend Weather- Temps: 48°/38° - Sat: Rain, cloudy skies. Sun: Rain/snow, but mostly rain.
Mt Baker Ski Area received a lot of snow- 15 inches at Heather Meadows, allowing for a nice refresh. Warm temps and some rain have softened up the snow, leading to fun, spring-like conditions. Unfortunately, Mt Baker had to cancel this year’s Legendary Banked Slalom due to snow conditions in the natural half pipe. Fingers crossed for next year! All lifts are running, and expect wet conditions!
Hurricane Ridge
Unfortunately, Hurricane Ridge is closed this weekend due to a lack of snow 🙁
