Jean Elizabeth (Calfe) DUBOSE 1936-2013

Jean DuBose, 76, of Seattle, Washington, passed away April 5, 2013 at Highline Medical Center. Born May 8, 1936 in Flushing, NY, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Dora (Paine) Calfe, who emigrated from London, England in 1928. She graduated from Flushing High School, then attended secretarial school in Manhattan. Jean met and married Air Force 1st Lt. Jere Pressley DuBose in 1957.

During their marriage Jean became a homemaker, career military wife and mother of four daughters. They enjoyed a life of travel with extended tours of duty in Europe and Asia. Jean loved to cook and entertain. A prolific reader, she enjoyed music of all kinds, and regularly attended the symphony. She was an avid Seattle Mariner's fan and often went to cheer on her "boys.” A longtime active member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, she was involved in many ministries there. She was very active with the Alter Guild and loved every aspect of it - the traditions and beauty of showing the churches reverence to God. Above all, Jean was a perfectionist. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Jean is survived by her sister, Joyce Ragazzi of Westbury, NY; daughters, Cheryl Nugent (Ed) of Normandy Park, WA, Elizabeth Craig (Glen) of Denver, NC, Laura Young (Roger) of Savannah, GA and Catherine DuBose of Burien, WA; grandsons, David Craig of Denver, NC and Lcpl. Daniel Craig, USMC of Washington, DC; granddaughters, Jennifer Young Alford and Ashley Young Melton of Savannah, GA.

A memorial service and committal of Jean’s ashes will be held June 2, 2013, 3 p.m. at St. John Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 3050 California Ave. S.W., Seattle, WA 98116.
