Jackie Lou (Cox) KEEGAN 1943-2013

Born December 3, 1943 in the original West Seattle Hospital, Jackie passed away November 15, 2013 at Highline Hospital after a long illness. A lifelong West Seattle resident, she graduated from Chief Sealth High School, class of 1962.

After graduation, Jackie worked as a secretary at the Boeing Company. She and her husband, Edward Keegan, then purchased a 7-Eleven convenience store on California Avenue, where she worked before her first child was born. She returned to work when both of her children attended school.
A passion for education led Jackie to volunteer in the Seattle School District. She then became a part time, substitute office assistant, and moved on to become the assistant administrative secretary at Arbor Heights Elementary, a position she loved. She was renowned for her playground management skills, and the playground at Arbor Heights now bears her name. Her students loved and respected her, and a walk with Jackie through the West Seattle Junction would be delayed by former students greeting her with long conversations and a big hug.

Predeceased by her parents, Boyd B. and Nellie (Rand) Cox, and brother, Boyd Cox, Jackie is survived by her husband, Edward Keegan; two children, Kelli and Traci Keegan; sister, Barbara Iacolucci (Fred); brother, James Cox; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held November 30th at the Rainier Golf and Country Club, Seattle.

Memorial donations may be made to the White Center Salvation Army, 9050 16th Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98106.
