Born November 3, 1931, Pt. Angeles, WA, Shirley Scully passed away in her sleep December 2, 2013. Shirley was loving and kind to all who knew her.

In addition to helping her husband with his logging business as a young woman, she farmed, gardened, canned food, and raised her 4 children who were born less than 5 years apart in Sequim, WA. During the same time Shirley, raised 2 foster children and helped to raise her brother, Jimmy. In 1959, as a single mom, she moved her mother and 4 children to Seattle, where she remarried and had 2 more children.
Shirley’s career included many years of working for the Department of Labor and Industries, Services for the Blind, and City of Seattle Police Department as a crossing guard.

Our loving mother is remembered for her generosity. She once saw a young mother who didn’t have a stroller walking her child to school with a baby in her arms…she bought the mother a stroller to lessen her load. She helped each and every one of her children when they were young, single, married, struggling, or otherwise in emotional or financial turmoil. She is remembered for her courageous spirit and always instilling the sense of a ‘better tomorrow’ with hard work and dedication to one’s calling. She was also known for her one-liner’s that always managed to bring a smile to anyone present.

Predeceased by her loving husband, John Scully, after 30+ joyous years of marriage; daughter, Connie Alice Irons (Larry, also); and son, Floyd Dale Sturdivant, Shirley is survived by her children, Glenda Barrett (Paul), Nancy Voorhees (Bob), John Scott Houde III and Kimberly Clare Houde; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We are grateful to the Group Health Hospice Team, doctors, and caregivers who helped ensure that mom’s final years were the best possible.

At Shirley’s request there will be no service. Remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
