Marian Ilene (Johnston) MICKELSON 1928-2014

Marian Mickelson passed away July 9, 2014 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s at the Queen Anne Manor. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care the staff of the Manor provided Marian since last October. Marian was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin January 6, 1928 to Walter and Ilene Johnston. As a young girl, she moved with her family to the Burien, Washington area.

Marian met and later married the love of her life, Kenneth Mickelson, June 24, 1944. They were married 69 years when Kenneth passed away November 2013. They had three children before Marian was 21 years of age and lived their entire married life in West Seattle. Marian remained at home to care for the children. Once they were all out of school, she volunteered at several organizations in Seattle.

Kenneth and Marian, who loved to dance and travel, were fortunate to take many wonderful trips including to Norway and Ireland where their ancestors came from. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

Marian is survived by her sons, Gary (Barbara) and Richard (Kathleen), and daughter, Linda (Daniel) Wingle; grandchildren, John (Lara) Wingle, Debbie (John) Puetz, Kelly (Daniel) Bailey and Kristian (Hayley) Mickelson; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Blake, Erik and Kristina; brother, Gene Johnston, and sister, Myrtle Mayer.

Memorial Services were held July 21, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, West Seattle. Donations may be made to Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation (425 Pontius Ave. N, Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98109), who took wonderful care of Marian in her last weeks.
