Berkeley “Bert” Rufus Nokes 1924 ~ 2015

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Bert Nokes, 90, of Kettle Falls, Washington, died peacefully in Colville, Washington August 8, 2015. Born November 11, 1924 in Seattle, Washington to Edna and Arthur Berkeley Nokes, Bert grew up in West Seattle. There he met the love of his life, Amaryllis Mask, and they married in June of 1948. The early years of their 67 year marriage were spent in the Seattle area where they raised their large family.
An accomplished carpenter, Bert made his living for most of his life in the construction trade and as a general contractor. To support his young family in the mid 1950s, Bert found work in Alaska and spent many months traveling between Seattle and Alaska.

Upon retirement in 1974, the couple moved to Rice, Washington, where they spent many peaceful years at their beloved ranch. In 2005 they moved to Kettle Falls.
Bert was an active and dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge, both in Seattle and Kettle Falls.
Predeceased by his son, Bruce Nokes, Bert is survived by wife, Amaryllis Nokes; children, Gerald Nokes of Rice, Aleece McGlothern of Colville, Teresa Neff of Seattle, Edrie Andrews of Seattle, and Jessie Nokes of Bryer, all in Washington; grandchildren, John Nokes, Bryan Nokes, Melissa Nokes, Matthew McGlothern, Jennifer Schild, Anne Kelly, Edrie Risdon, Tara Staab, James Andrews and Sam Andrews; and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff at Buena Vista for their care and dedication in his final months.
A memorial service will be scheduled for the fall, date and time to be announced later. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bert’s life.
