Ferrell's making another run

It's a warm day in Federal Way, and Jim Ferrell has opted for the iced coffee instead of the latte at Marissa's.

He speaks quickly and expressively, and for a moment his jubilation seems somewhat induced by his late afternoon caffeine jolt.

PowellsWood garden welcomes visitors this Mother's Day

Belted by December's windstorm, PowellsWood is back in bloom.

"We lost three big trees and there were broken limbs and branches everywhere - it was quite a mess," said Monte Powell, creator of the private garden.

The mess is long gone, though, and Monte and his wife, Diane, are once again preparing to open PowellsWood to the public for Mother's Day weekend. The fifth annual event takes place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, and Sunday, May 13. Admission is $5 for adults.

If you are like me, you are grinding your teeth each time you pull into a station to fuel your car.

Not only will Exxon make more money, but your dentist may get some extra business.

Gas company talking heads have a number or explanations for why they are still recording record profits, but cannot seem to keep fuel costs under control.

Vote yes for schools

Maybe this is the year that we get it right and build some suitable buildings for our kids. We have elementary schools that are in bad shape. We have a district kitchen that is in worse shape.

This is not a bond that has waste, fraud or abuse written into it.
