KATHLEEN A. MIKKILA

Kathleen A. Mikkila, 64, passed away April 28, 2007. Born in Mt. Vernon, she had been a Federal Way resident the last 33 years. Kathleen worked for a local auto parts store as a delivery driver. Survivors include; Daughter, Rhonda Mikkila of Federal Way; Son, Craig Mikkila (wife Karrie) of Kent. There will be a celebration of Kathleen's life on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the home of Craig and Karrie Mikkila, all are invited. SeaTac council alarmed at potential runway expansion

SeaTac lawmakers reacted angrily on April 24 to a disclosure by Port of Seattle officials that the Port may take part of Des Moines Creek Park to extend a runway at Sea-Tac International Airport.

Elizabeth Leavitt, Port aviation environmental programs manager, and David McCraney, Port environmental services manager, emphasized that the extension is "the most uncertain" of the Port's long-range projects planned after 2010.

Picnic at Camp Waskowitz will fete Carl Jensen, Highline Schools leader

A picnic honoring the memory of former Highline Public Schools Superintendent Carl Jensen will be held Saturday, May 26, at Camp Waskowitz.

The public is invited to attend.

Mr. Jensen, who was superintendent from 1953 to 1971, died last November at the age of 97.

He had requested that a picnic be held at Camp Waskowitz in lieu of a memorial service, and he set aside money in his will to pay for the event.

Sanjaya's famous hair is styled in Burien

College hires personnel chief

Cesar Portillo has joined Highline Community College as executive director for human resources.

Portillo has Highline 15 years of experience in employee relations and policy/procedure development as well as extensive knowledge of employment laws.

He most recently served as interim director of human resources at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Portillo earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas at El Paso and engaged in graduate-level studies in psychology at San Diego State University.
