Regrets, she's had a few after hearing birthday whining

Recently, Marge hears plaintive warbling emanating from the bathroom whenever I'm in the tub:

"And now the end is near. So I face the final curtain.... Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.... The record shows, I took the blows, and did it MY WAAAAY!"

Other times, it's a selection from the Jimmy Buffet songbook: "Some of its magic and some of its tragic, but it's been a good life all in all."

Why the histrionics?

I just turned 60.

This wasn't supposed to happen to a baby-boomer.

Rams try to succeed despite low numbers

United we stand. Divided we fall.

After just a year ago of sun-soaked faces, kids everywhere, people lining the Zenith Park outskirts in lawn chairs -- the music has died. There are two Des Moines Rams Junior Football League divisions without teams even.

What happened with all the action last year at this time, the hot dogs and pop concessions freely given out, an upbeat mood from the president.

"A lot of kids did not pay to play last year," said Rams 89ers division coach Fred Archie, who has eight and nine year olds on the team.

Update: Some Highline schools miss WASL progress standards

Chinook Middle in SeaTac is the only Puget Sound area school to reach step five in federal sanctions as a result of test scores on the Washington Assessment of Student learning (WASL).

Step Five means the Highline district school has missed No Child Left Behind Act targets for the past six years.

According to the regulations, the school must restructure according to a plan drawn up last year as well as offer students a chance to transfer to a higher-scoring school and offer private tutoring to low-income students.

The plan could also include replacing the princ

Highline District ponders losing North Highline schools

The Highline School District has decided to closely study proposed legislation that could determine whether North Highline schools leave the district if Seattle annexes the unincorporated area.

Evergreen High and Cascade Middle as well as White Center Heights, Mount View, Southern Heights, Hilltop and Beverly Park/Glendale elementary schools could be included.

Currently, attendance areas may be switched between school districts if the majority of both school boards agree or a petition is signed by more than half of the registered voters in the affected area.
