Mel must have noticed my depression.

As I shuffled into New Lumber to buy some work gloves, he stopped me, "Have you called him yet?" Wha..huh?

I was caught off guard, moping about not having a good subject to write about this week and Mel eyed me sternly as I gave him a sheepish shrug.

"Here's his number," he said, " I'll give it to you AGAIN."

New director, preschool program gets Federal Way YMCA back on tract

Angela Griffin enjoys a challenge.

The Norman Center YMCA's newest director speaks with the confidence of a woman eager to give the center a facelift and restore one of the Federal Way's treasures into the public asset the community deserves.

Han Woo-Ri schedule announced

Han Woo-Ri, the Northwest Korean Sports and Cultural Festival featuring all things Korean will take place this month, September 21 to 23, in Federal Way.

The third annual festival will include contemporary and traditional performing arts, exhibits, sports, games, and food. This year's theme centers on technology and youth, key elements of the new "Korean Wave".

Federal Way Arts Commission seeking submissions for city art galleris

The Federal Way Arts Commission is accepting applications for the 2008 Art Gallery Program.

Visual artists are invited to submit a resume and photo samples of their work. The Commission will review all entries and select artists to exhibit their work in City galleries in 2008.

Artists chosen will receive a $200 honorarium and are encouraged to sell their work. Sales are handled privately with the artist.

The Arts Commission manages two galleries: one at City Hall and the other at the Knutzen Family Theatre.

Angela J. House

Longtime Ballard resident died, August 30, 2007 at age 77, in Marquette, MI.

Angela was born Sept. 21, 1929 in Italy and came to the United States on April 11, 1959. Throughout the years, she worked primarily as a caregiver.

Survivors include her son, Patrick (Mary Ann) House of Marquette, MI; two grandchildren, Cora and Michael House; a sister and brother in Italy; and several nieces and nephews.

No services will be scheduled.

The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family.

Wolverines laboring to make postseason picture

Well, the weekend is over and Labor Day is through, but the work is just beginning for area high school football teams laboriously preparing for Seamount League season games.

One word comes to mind quickly when watching the Evergreen Wolverines' practice recently at Highline Stadium.

Ready.

"We are pretty ready to play," said Evergreen head coach Shaun Tarantola, who has transformed this team from beginners to winners in this now his third season which included the playoffs last season and an 8-2 record.

Annexation costs detailed

Some proponents of annexation continue to confuse and misinform the public, as witnessed by a letter in the Times/News, Aug. 22.

Chris Reed claims that Burien annexation is less costly (to Burien) than Seattle annexation. Perhaps Mr. Reed would care to read the Berk & Assoc. memo to which he refers.
