KapKa School does 'poop study'

KapKa Primary School students became scientific straight-talkers at two forums last week thanks to their completed study on Fauntleroy Creek bacteria. Their study showed excessive findings of dog poop which, scientifically speaking, means high fecal coliform bacterium levels in its waters.

The Phinney Ridge kindergarten through second grade classes took five trips to the creek and discovered a total of 55 puppy piles left behind.

Compost bins now available

The city is making it easier to garden the natural way by offering huge discounts on compost bins.

Residents can save more than $100 on high-quality compost bins while building healthy soils and helping their plants to thrive.

Carl Woestwin, landscape conservation manager at Seattle Public Utilities, said home composting creates beautiful gardens without resorting to chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

"Composting at home is easy to do and you get a great natural soil builder to use in your garden," said Woestwin.

Senior stars show off skills

Federal Way's area players lit up the field in the South Puget Sound League North vs. South All-Stars game well - a showcase event that pitted top seniors of the two divisions against each other. The North won both games, 5-2, at the Auburn Mountainview High School field Thursday.

Winning the first game as a pitcher was none of our pitchers, but closing it was.

Beamer comes up short of championship

The Todd Beamer Titans got where most want to get -- the Final Four -- but could not get past Puyallup in the 4A state semifinal, losing, 1-0. Then, the next night they lost to Eastlake 2-1 in action at Harry E. Lang Stadium in Lakewood.

But the Titans took fourth place. That's the good news, among other good news like being one of the four best boys soccer teams in the state of Washington out of 90 some schools in the 4A classification.

"Traditional Marriage" supporter's claims are bogus - and plagiarized

To the Editor:

This is in response to Ray Koenig's editorial asserting that "Traditional Marriage" supporters are not bigots.

To begin with, I should point out that the words in his editorial are not his own. They were taken verbatim from a "Featured Alert" put out by a group called "The Center For Moral Clarity".

Keep God out of politics

To the Editor:

While watching "The Protestant Reformation" on the History International channel; I saw the following quote from an address by Abraham Lincoln, in 1861.

"IN GREAT CONTESTS, EACH PARTY CLAIMS TO ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WILL OF GOD,

BOTH MAY BE, BUT ONE MUST BE WRONG.

GOD CANNOT BE FOR AND AGAINST THE SAME THING AT THE SAME TIME."

What a shame that today's religious and political leaders can't realize this.
