Musica Sacra Chamber Chorale Spring Concert May 4, Holy Rosary

Concert to benefit Nature Consortium in West Seattle

Musica Sacra Chamber Chorale presents "Sacred Music: Different Views" May 4 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, West Seattle.

The Chorale asks, “How would the same text sound when set to music by different composers in different centuries?”

The musical program attempts to answer this question.

According to its press release, This concert series features three musical settings of four different sacred texts, with each setting taken from a different historical period or viewpoint. Choral music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Modern eras will be presented. Well known composers such as as Mozart, Bruckner, DeLassus, Biebl, and Morten Lauridsen are heard as well as lessor known composers Michel-Richard DeLalande, Jacobus Gallus, Colin Mawby and Ralph Manuel. The texts selected include the Ave Verum Corpus, the Ave Maria and Sure on this Shining Night; as well as three Alleluia settings. Three spirituals based on a similar theme are also presented.

SeaMart now open again in Highland Park

Saejun Lee is the owner of the SeaMart located at 1513 Holden Street s.w. and it re-opened late Friday, March 30 after being closed for more than a year.

Lee comes to the business after owning a similar market downtown on South Jackson Street.

"I took some time off and I needed to get something going again so this was a good location for me," said Lee.

The store, still getting stocked, will carry typical quick market items but will offer, as the previous owners did, an array of specialty and craft beers.

Lee said that his prices will be lower than some of his competitors for the standard kinds of things markets like this carry. "We'll have a lot of specials hopefully."

He said he will have a selection of frozen pizzas, burgers, and other kinds of dinners and will carry some fresh fruit but likely only apples and bananas.

Make-A-Wish Foundation grants Ballard teen’s wish

By Elizabeth Wang, Intern

Fourteen-year-old Louisa from Ballard lined up her cue stick as she prepared to break the triangle of striped and solid balls on her newly felted pool table in her own private billiards room.

Sinking the first shot was only the icing on the cake as she was applauded by family, friends, and even former Seattle Sounders player Taylor Graham. After a year of planning, building and decorating, the Make-A-Wish Foundation finally revealed to Louisa her special wish on March 31st, as they opened the doors to a brightly decorated billiards room of her own.

With freshly painted orange walls and wood paneling floor, Louisa’s new room can be used to hang out, relax and play a few rounds of pool, her favorite pastime.

What used to be her family’s garage was completely torn down and rebuilt to house Louisa’s wish. Now she can throw some darts, bang her drums and play pool on her very own pool table, which was donated by Olhausen Billiards and has her name engraved on the front.

Foster pulls off 1-0 win with late game goal

By Kyle Howard

The Foster Bulldogs hosted the Evergreen Wolverines Friday March 30th for a Seamount league boy’s soccer match. From the start Foster seemed to control the game, keeping Evergreens defense busy. The Bulldogs outshot the Wolverines 8-1 in the first half.

Throughout the game Foster had good open shots on goal but missed their opportunities when four good open shots hit the post deflecting their shots. Evergreen did a better job in the second half being able to get some good shots on goal and controlling tempo, but it was their defense that kept them in the game.

Late into the second half with 7:50 left in the game Foster scored on a questionable goal when the goalkeeper seemed to have stopped the goal but the referees ruled it as a goal. The goal was credited to Foster senior Adrian Hernandez. That would prove to be it for the game as the Bulldogs pull off the 1-0 shutout over Evergreen. Despite Evergreen's hard fought efforts and great defense, Foster was able to edge them out.
