What do you want to read?

I interview myself

This is an interview I conducted with myself.

I: You get your name in the paper all the time. What's with that?
Me: I' the editor…what sort of question is that?
I: Nobody seems to know anything about you. Only your name.
Me: So?
I: people what to know who is editing their paper.
Me I am
I. Right. But who are you?
Me: Oh. Okay. Where Should I start?
I: (sigh) Where were you born?
Me: Seattle, a new neighborhood just east the airport.
I: I would appreciate it if you sped this up a little.
Me: Great: Went to Highline High in Burien, then Edison Tech, then Highline College, then Olympic College, then Seattle U, then the Goethe Institute in Berlin, then UW. Gasp!
I: What was your first job?
Me. I was an indentured servant to my father at the White Center News. I was Printer's Devil in the '50's, melting lead for the Linotype machines.
I: Boring…go on.

UPDATE: Amanda Knox declared guilty in Italian court

UPDATE Jan. 30

Amanda Knox was declared guilty of murder in an Italian court today in Florence. Her one time boyfriend Raffaelle Sollecito was ordered to surrender all his paperwork. The court said that Amanda Knox was in the U.S. "illegally" and signaled that they would seek her extradition to serve a 28 1/2 year sentence.

Raffaele Sollecito, Knox’s former boyfriend, was also found guilty Thursday.

Italy’s Supreme Court will need to ratify the decision before the country asks for Amanda Knox’s extradition to Italy.

Lawyers for American student Amanda Knox warned jurors not to overlook mistakes made by investigators as deliberations began here Thursday in Knox’s new appeal of her conviction for the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher.

“We are anxious about your verdict,” lawyer Luciano Ghirga told the judge and jurors moments before they filed out to consider the fate of Knox, 26, and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 29.

'Alki Landing' project review meeting coming up Feb. 20

A design review meeting is coming up Feb. 20 for the "Alki Landing project being developed by Borge Steinsvik as a mixed-use building located at the eastern corner of 59th Ave. S.W. and Alki Ave. S.W. at 2626 Alki Ave. S.W. The meeting will be at the West Seattle Senior Center at 4217 S.W. Oregon Street at 6:30 p.m.

Steinsvik owns the 13,700 ft. lot that Alki Beach Properties and Saigon Boat Café currently call home. According to Roger H Newell AIA Architects (tasked with designing the new development) the plans are for a mixed-use residential and commercial space with surface parking and “one or two eating establishments on the main floor of the building with possible commercial uses on the upper floors.”

AIA previously presented four different design options at a Southwest Design Review Board meeting.
The current design will be available for review at the meeting.

Architects initially planned to build underground parking, but Newell said the idea was scrapped “due to the extensive peat layer under the site.”

School/Program Choice Open Enrollment for 2014-15 starts Feb. 24

Student assignment changes can be submitted through March 7

information from Seattle Public Schools

Seattle Public Schools families who want to request a different school or program assignment for the 2014-15 school year should submit a “choice application” during Open Enrollment, which runs from Feb. 24-March 7, 2014.

Open Enrollment applies only to those families wanting their student to attend a different school or program – or to those who did not enroll their soon-to-be-kindergartener (or other new student) during the early enrollment process. Parents of students who are already attending Seattle Public Schools or participated in early enrollment will receive a letter right before Open Enrollment starts with next year’s assignment.

“While our Student Assignment Plan focuses on placing students in their attendance area school, it also provides opportunities for families to request a different school or program for their student, such as Montessori, International, Spectrum or APP,” said Faauu Manu, John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence (JSCEE) Service Center Manager.

Cindi Rinehart – When getting fired is GOOD!

By Cindi Rinehart

I need you to know that in my entire life, I have NEVER been fired from any of the 30 something jobs I had before coming to Seattle.

There was about to be a first. During my career at KOMO TV, I did a lot of outside jobs and pilots. I did an entertainment segment for Great Weekend at KABC in Los Angeles.

They liked my work so we were able to do it out of Seattle. George, the producers hired me as the talent, Janelle (My, then KOMO producer) to produce it and we hired my husband Jim for finding location, lighting and well…just about everything else.

We worked on the weekends and I was thrilled because it was about a grand a week and Jim and I were eating beans dogs to try and save money. It was mostly stand ups at theatres and different places around Seattle. I didn’t know poop about contracts so Michael, my attorney handled that part. The show went hummingly along and Jim and I continued to house hunt.
