Residents voice concern for illegal camping and trash piles in Ballard

There has been a recent rise in homeless activity along the Burke Gilman Trail and near the Ballard Locks and it has some residents wondering what can be done to help the situation.

Mark, a Ballard resident who asked not to be named, has used the BGT to commute to his office downtown for the last six years. He said that just this summer he has noticed more individuals camping along the trail.

Last week Mark was running the Burke Gilman trail with his wife and four-year-old daughter. Mark said he was ahead of the two when he heard a man yell at his daughter for riding her bicycle in the “wrong” lane of the trail. Mark said the man was erratic and agitated.

Since the incident Mark has asked his wife to stop running the trail with their daughter without him.

“It makes me fearful of my wife running alone and also I fear what I ‘m capable of if something like that happened again. No one should ever yell at a four-year-old child like that,” said Mark.

Suspect flees on foot after Des Moines traffic stop

Suspect flees on foot after Des Moines traffic stop
According to a report filed by the Des Moines Police Department a routine traffic stop turned into a chase on foot after a driver in Des Moines attempted to flee from the officers. The chase took place near the intersection of South 136th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive on the evening of November 11th. After a short chase, officers were able to catch up with the suspect and he was arrested for "attempting to elude” which is a class C felony in Washington State. he Normandy Park Arts Commission Presents Artwork of Giel Ahn

Artwork of Giel Ahn

September- October, 2015

Reception on October 8th, 2015

7:00 - 9:00 pm.

The Normandy Park Arts Commission is pleased to present an exhibit showcasing the colorful paintings of Giel Ahn, in Normandy Park City Hall Council Chambers during the months of September and October, 2015.

Giel Ahn, an autistic young man, expresses himself beautifully through striking and powerful contemporary paintings. Bold brush strokes, carefully chosen color placement in combination with an overall interesting and evocative design, his work catches the viewer’s attention. Giel Ahn works in acrylics using a vivid color palette whether he chooses a realistic or an abstract design. Even though they are but his voice from within, Giel’s artworks speak ‘loudly’ and convey his feelings, his emotions, and his joy for life. Unspoken words become language once this young artist picks up a canvas, a brush, and paint.
