Where area stars meet their future

Moore signs with Antelope Valley

University of Antelope Valley women’s volleyball team head coach Sherisa Livingston recently announced the signing of incoming freshman setter Jasmine Moore from Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien.
"Jasmine is an impact setter, and she will certainly add another dimension of power and talent to our outstanding group of returning and incoming players,” Livingston said. “She is also a tremendous teammate and leader, and Jasmine has a positive attitude and believes in her own capabilities.

“We demand the best athletes, and our program demands the best people as well. We know we have a great person and player joining our family.”

Moore is the daughter of Rick and Shawna Moore, and brings a winning mentality to the UAV locker room in Lancaster, Calif. The Des Moines, Wash., native won the 3A State Championship in 2015 – and in the process – was voted 2015 All-League Honorable Mention.

“The smaller classes (at UAV) definitely helped me decide which school to attend,” Moore said. “I find it easier for me to learn this way; I won't get lost in the crowd and I get to play the sport I love.”

Sound Transit seeks input for light rail plan

By Lindsay Peyton

Area residents gathered at West Seattle High School tonight to weigh in on the Sound Transit’s plan to extend light rail throughout the city.

The Sound Transit 3 Draft Plan, or ST3, would take an estimated 25 years to execute – and would build 58 miles of light rail, connecting urban centers from Everett to Tacoma and from Ballard and West Seattle to Redmond and Issaquah.

The vision, which also includes establishing rapid bus transit services, extending the Sounder South line and adding more bike lanes and pedestrian trails, is being firmed up prior to going to the ballot in November.

Sound Transit is seeking public input first, CEO Peter Rogoff said.

“We’re going to be putting together – through your input – a better plan in June,” he said. “The feedback you give us about this plan is very important.”

Discussions have been ongoing since 2012, and a long-range plan was established in 2014. The following year, Sound Transit received permission from state legislature for additional taxing authority to pay for this project.

Kenny G heads home

By Lindsay Peyton

Kenny G enjoys coming home to Seattle. He looks forward to a waterfront jog, a stroll through Pike Place Market and a meal at Wild Ginger, if he actually gets the chance to sit down for dinner.

The nights that Kenny G is in town will be spent mainly on stage. He has eight sold out shows planned at Dimitiriou’s Jazz Alley, for a stint starting Thursday, April 28 and ending Sunday, May 1.

The Grammy-winning saxophone star will sign albums in the lobby. “Even if you don’t have a ticket, you can come by and get a CD and an autograph,” he said.

Kenny G will also bring his signature line of saxophones for sale.

Dimitiriou’s Jazz Alley is one of three small venues where the artist performs. The line-up also includes Yoshi’s in Oakland and the Blue Note in New York.

Usually, his concerts are in large arenas and concert halls.

“At the jazz club, we get to show off our chops,” Kenny G said. “This gets us in touch with our jazz roots. There’s a lot more improv.”

Rachael Millikan, spokeswoman for Jazz Alley, said that the artist always gets a warm welcome.
