Hate Free Vigil rescheduled for Nov. 7 at Westlake Park

information from Hate Free Delridge

On Saturday September 24th over 200 neighbors gathered to respond to a hate crime in their Delridge neighborhood. The response was a very positive opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other and share food, music and diversity. We realized a need for folks to respond to the ongoing, daily dynamic of hate and they seized the opportunity.

On October 15th we offered this opportunity to the entire city of Seattle, in the form of a candlelight vigil, which was posponed due to a pending wind storm.

We have rescheduled this chance for citizens of Seattle to reject this pattern of hate to rationalize actions by Government and citizens alike that are motivated by hate speech.

The night before our national election Nov. 7th we are asking anyone who feels they need to respond to the negativity and hatefulness in a postive way, to come to the Westlake Park at 5pm. We will observe a moment of silent hope for healing and then light our candles. People are encourage to talk, interact or even sing during this gathering. No matter the outcome of the election, we the people need to stand together and defend our American democracy.

Partying on Halloween? Uber teams up with city to offer discounted rides

information from Uber and City of Seattle

The City of Seattle is teaming up with Uber to offer discounted rides this Halloween. At a time when children are trick-or-treating and adults are celebrating during weekend festivities, it’s important to be alert and stay safe on Seattle streets. This partnership is part of Seattle’s Vision Zero plan to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries on city streets by 2030.

From Friday, October 28 to Monday, October 31, new and existing Uber users can safely catch a ride home from Halloween festivities in Seattle by entering promo code HALLOWPOOL for a free ride, up to a $10 value. On October 28, Uber users will also receive VIP access to the Georgetown Morgue Haunted House, when they show their Uber trip receipt.

“Halloween means more people will be out and about – kids trick-or-treating, people going to parties –so it’s important for everyone to be extra cautious,” said Seattle Department of Transportation Director Scott Kubly. “If you’re planning on a night out that includes drinking, plan ahead by using rideshare or taxi.”

Transit ST3 goes up for a vote

Proponents say it's overdue, opponents say it's too expensive and will take too long

By Lindsay Peyton

West Seattle’s transit system would get a major makeover and have a much farther reach if voters pass the Sound Transit 3 Draft Plan, or ST3, this election.

The measure would add 58 miles of light rail, connecting urban centers from Everett to Tacoma and from Ballard and West Seattle to Redmond and Issaquah.

The vision, which also includes establishing rapid bus transit services, extending the Sounder South line and adding more bike lanes and pedestrian trails, was firmed up prior to going on the ballot in November.

“With our population growth and traffic congestion challenges, there’s overwhelming support out there for more transportation options,” Sound Transit spokesman Geoff Patrick said. “The scale of work is responsive to what we’ve heard from the public.”

He explained that the improvements would be made possible by three separate tax increases. Sales tax would go up by 0.5 percent, or 50 cents per $100.
