SeaTac seeks community input through road safety survey

information from the City of SeaTac

The City of SeaTac wants to hear from our community to help us ensure that walking, rolling, driving, cycling, public transit and more are safe and comfortable for everyone using our roads by taking our online survey!

Road Safety can include a lot of different things from crosswalks, bike lanes, street lighting and reducing speed limits. Some examples of recent local projects that fall in this category include: Pedestrian safety along International Boulevard,  SeaTac/Airport Station area pedestrian improvement project and a few others.

As part of the development of a comprehensive Local Road Safety Plan which will assess the most critical road safety issues and propose improvement strategies, we are conducting broad outreach through the use of a community web survey, key stakeholder interviews, and targeted focus groups.

SDOT will improve Highland Park Way/Holden intersection after bridge opens next summer

information from Seattle Department of Transportation

When the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge closed to traffic in March 2020, the Highland Park neighborhood and the Highland Park Way SW and SW Holden St intersection became part of a detour route. We immediately installed a traffic signal at the intersection to keep people moving safely and efficiently.

The traffic signal has been working well and will continue to serve its purpose until the high bridge reopens in mid-2022 (and the intersection is no longer part of a detour route).

Thanks to Levy to Move Seattle dollars, the Highland Park Way SW and SW Holden St intersection was scheduled for upgrades prior to the high bridge closure.

Welcome to the Heron’s Nest Outdoor Education Center

Volunteers and Duwamish Tribal Services work to revitalize a sacred piece of ground

By Olivia Palmer

On a busy weekday, West Marginal Way is a concrete canyon.

Shipping containers and industrial buildings line the roadway. Trucks rumble past. Traffic roars. Venture just a few hundred meters off the main road, however, and a different world appears.

Just beyond the cacophony of traffic and industry is The Heron’s Nest Outdoor Education Center- a quiet, 3.5-acre parcel of land along the West Duwamish Greenbelt.

“It kind of feels a little unreal,” said Andrew Grueter, an ecotour guide with Duwamish Tribal Services. “You go from driving on West Marginal Way, you take a turn, you drive for like 30 seconds and you feel like you're out of the city.”

Brady Williams is serious about White Center; New restaurant TOMO is sold out before opening

Brady Williams, former Executive chef at Canlis, and owner of the soon to open TOMO restaurant in White Center loves the community already. This is fine dining in every sense from the charcoal gray interior, to the art, music, staff and prix fixe menu. It's located at 9811 16th SW.

Why White Center?

"It's a vibrant, diverse neighborhood that seems to be very community focused." Williams said,  "Seems like my experience here is that the businesses and the community really tend to support each other and take care of each other and champion each other and as a hospitality area, that's like at the core of what we do, you know." He sees similarities to where he grew up in Whittier California.
