Today, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell announced that he will appoint Greg Spotts to be the next Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), pending confirmation by the Seattle City Council. Spotts currently serves as the Executive Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services.
UPDATE: The Cessna 150 that splash landed just off the Alki Beach Promenade on July 26 around 4pm has been successfully lifted out the water by a crane aboard a truck on shore. It was attached and lifted on to the promenade around 9:30 AM Wednesday morning. The plane will be dismantled by AvTech Services, then hauled to salvage.
The White Center Block Party returns to the community Aug. 28. Begun in 2021 as a response to a spate of fires and vandalism, the celebration of the diversity of White Center and its spirit was surprisingly successful.
Since then, the WCBP committee has continued to plan events for the White Center community. Profits generated through the Annual Block Party will be set aside for future events. A small portion will be donated to a local White Center community organization.
The purchase of your wristband will get you discounts at participating stores and special offerings at restaurants during the White Center Block Party hours.
The event will again feature food from area restaurants, local musicians, vendors and community information booths will round it out.

On July 27, Mayor Bruce Harrell will announce his selection for the next director of the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) following an extensive national search.
Mayor Harrell sought a leader for SDOT who will address Seattle’s transportation priorities by leading with equity and climate, elevating community engagement, and maintaining and repairing critical infrastructure. The search process included a robust search committee of local transportation experts including former and current SDOT employees, government partners, advocates, and economic development and community leaders.

Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has reached another major construction milestone on the West Seattle High Bridge repairs and completed tightening the steel post-tensioning cables inside the bridge. Crews began the tightening process early last week. This is an important part of our work to strengthen and fully repair the bridge, and brings SDOT one step closer to reopening as planned.
The temperatures are forecast to be in the 90's all week which means you might need to cool off. Only 40% of homes in the greater Seattle area have air conditioning so the City of Seattle and King County have some tips on how to stay cool and some places to go to keep yourself comfortable.

#2022-191937/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:
On 07-24-2022 at 1:37am, officers responded to a shots call in the area of 24 AVE SW/SW Kenyon ST.
Officers located evidence of a shooting, broken glass, a makeshift memorial and two unoccupied vehicles struck by gunfire.
Witness advised he heard several people arguing, followed by the sound of gunfire and saw two unknown vehicles depart the area.
Scene processed by patrol. GVRU advised.

On July 15 Robert Mason was the victim of the hit and run near the Spokane Street Bridge while he rode his bicycle. He is the thirteenth person to die from a collision on Seattle streets in 2022.
I’ve heard from constituents with questions about what the City does after fatal crashes, and about potential road safety changes in that location.
After fatal crashes, SDOT evaluates sites from an engineering perspective to see whether there are short term and longer-term safety improvements to be made. This is in addition to the Seattle Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad’s work on crash reconstruction and criminal investigation.
