West Seattle's stay in Walla Walla for the state Majors age 10-12 Little League all-star baseball tournament ended with an 8-2 loss to Lake Stevens on Tuesday.

The Westsiders came into the tournament as the District 7 champions while Lake Stevens won the District 1 championship for the area north of Seattle.

West Seattle finished with a record of 2-2 in state tournament action.

South Seattle College (SSC) and The Mars Society, through its Seattle chapter, have signed a 10-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) establishing a multi-program partnership to build a Moon and Mars analog research station on the South Seattle College campus in West Seattle and create a regional education and workforce pathway for the next generation of aerospace researchers, technicians and engineers.  

The agreement, signed by SSC President Monica Brown and Mars Society Executive Director James L. Burk, covers four interconnected efforts: a Moon and Mars analog research station on the SSC campus, a joint space studies curriculum and stackable certificate pathway, a student capstone project and internship program tied to industry partners, and a regional workforce pipeline and community engagement effort.  

Power is out, not good in high heat, in an incident that initially affected 2144 people on the Westside due to solid waste truck that brought down some wires at 6732 16th SW.

That number is now down to 647.

Restoration is not expected until this afternoon.

The Kenney Senior Living is opening its doors to the Morgan Junction community for an evening of tropical flair and festive fun. The Paradise Party, a free event open to the public of all ages, is set to take place on Thursday, August 20th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The celebration will be held on the Grand Lawn & Garden, conveniently located at the corner of SW Myrtle St and 47th Ave SW. According to the sources, the event is designed to bring a "taste of paradise" to the neighborhood, allowing guests to celebrate the warmth and beauty of summer through music, laughter, and connection.

A combined team from the Queen Anne, RUG and Ballard areas of Seattle did things the hard way to capture the state Junior Little League age 13-14 all-star baseball championship Sunday.

The team took a 3-2 loss to Kirkland in the provisional final in the morning but bounced back for an 11-9 victory in the afternoon if-necessary final with everything on the line.

The tournament took place at the Hazel Dell Little League complex in Vancouver.

In the Majors age 10-12 tournament in Walla Walla, meanwhile, West Seattle went down to a 5-1 loss at the hands of Soundview of Northeast Tacoma in its second game Sunday morning but beat Columbia in the loser's bracket by an 11-9 score Monday.

West Seattle takes on Lake Stevens with its season on the line again at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The White Center Library Guild is inviting the community to its Summer Sale, a two-day event focused on raising funds for local library services.

The sale is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, running from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Attendees can browse a variety of items, including second-hand books and gently used household treasures.

This event serves as a fundraiser for the library, as all proceeds directly benefit programs hosted at the White Center Library. The sale will be held on-site at the library, located at 1409 SW 107th Street.

The Seattle Police Department is inviting residents to participate in a series of Personal Safety Training seminars designed to provide proactive tools for enhancing individual security. Taught by Seattle police officers and employees, these sessions aim to equip the community with practical knowledge to stay safe in various environments.

A Focus on Prevention, Not Physical Combat The program is structured as a facilitated discussion and lecture rather than a physical self-defense class. The primary training goals include sharing commonsense safety tips to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim and helping participants understand the vital role their instincts and gut reactions play in personal protection. Attendees will also learn how to identify potentially dangerous situations, how to avoid them, and how to develop customized safety plans for different settings.

A driver is in custody following a hit-and-run collision with a King County Metro bus early Monday morning that left four people injured.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. on July 20, 2026, near the intersection of Ambaum Boulevard SW and SW 126th Street. According to authorities, the Metro bus was traveling northbound on Ambaum Blvd when a passenger car entered the intersection and struck the vehicle.

Immediately following the impact, the driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. King County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a search of the surrounding area and successfully located and arrested the suspect a short time later.
