Weekend traffic advisory

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, some 10,000 walkers will be pounding the pavement from the Seattle Center into and back out of downtown to promote and raise funds for heart health. Soon after 70,000 Husky football fans will filling the streets around Husky Stadium as they make their way to the 12:30 football game between the University of Washington Huskies and the Colorado Buffaloes. Saturday evening, the Seattle Sounders will bring out a crowd of 55,000 enthusiastic supporters for the team’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. at CenturyLink Field.
The Seattle Department of Transportation encourages event-goers to consider reducing the stress and environmental impact of driving their cars and try one of the many alternate modes of transportation available - Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or even walking, if feasible.
Friday, October 14
UW Husky Band Friday Night Rally and Procession: 8:45 – 10 p.m.
Streets just north of the campus
200 participants
UW Husky Marching Band will march through Greek Row from campus north on 21st Avenue NE, west on NE 47th, south on 17th Ave NE and back to campus. Streets along the route will be closed to vehicles during the rally. Seattle Police will escort.
Saturday, October 15
2011 Start! Puget Sound Heart Walk: 9 a.m.
Starts and finishes at Seattle Center
10,000 participating
5K route: exits Center grounds at Second Avenue N and Mercer Street; east on Mercer to Fifth Avenue N; south on Fifth to Cedar Street; west on Cedar to Second Avenue; south on Second to Spring Street; u-turn at Spring and then heads north on Second onto Seattle Center grounds
1 mile route: exits Center grounds at Second Avenue N and Mercer Street; east on Mercer to Fifth Avenue N; south on Fifth to Harrison Street; west on Harrison back onto Seattle Center grounds. Expect traffic congestion along the route.
University of Washington Huskies vs Colorado Buffaloes: 12:30 - 4 p.m.
Husky Stadium
70,000 attending
Expect extra heavy traffic on SR 520, I-5, and streets surrounding the stadium. Seattle Police will have the usual game day lane revisions in place before and after the game on arterials near the stadium.
Seattle Sounders vs. San Jose Earthquakes: 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
CenturyLink Field
55,000 attending
Expect heavy traffic before and after the match in the area surrounding the stadium.
Sunday, October 16
Seattle University REDOUT Block Party: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Directly east of Championship Field on 13th Avenue

Street closed: 13th Avenue between E Columbia Street and E Cherry Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
