Thief threatens security officers with blade, flees
On Feb. 22, Seattle Police Officers responded to shoplifting report at the Ballard Fred Meyer. When officers arrived they saw a man brandishing a knife and fleeing the scene. Loss prevention officers were following the man. Police told the man to stop and to put the knife down. At first he did not respond but finally dropped the knife. Police detained the suspect, but he started shaking. He moaned and coughed. Seattle Firefighters were dispatched, and when they arrived the suspect told them he had taken “medications.” Loss prevention officers told police that they had detained the suspect after they saw him attempting to leave the store with over $200 worth of items. Prevention officers removed a knife from the suspect’s pocket and set it on a desk in their officer. They were processing theft and waiting for police when the suspect grabbed the knife. He said, “I’m not going to jail!!” and ordered the officers out of his way. He told them that he would use the knife on anyone who tried to stop him. The suspect ran out the main entry area and that’s when officers saw the suspect and arrested him.
Burglar takes laptop and iPad
On Feb. 19, officers were dispatched to the scene of a burglary at the 8300 block of 13th Avenue Northwest. The complainant told officers that when she arrived home she noticed her purse had been rifled through. Some of her personal items were taken. Also, a Samsung laptop worth approximately $800 and a Black Apple iPad worth approximately $1000 were taken. The complainant called her father who told her to get out of the house and call police. Officers dusted for fingerprints but found none. They concluded the point of entry was the bedroom window.
Cadger threatens student with knife and taser
On Feb. 19, police officers were dispatched to an attempted armed robbery of a student that occurred at the 9000 block of Mary Avenue Northwest. The victim told officers that his father dropped him off a few blocks from school. While he was walking, two adult females approached the victim and asked him for money. One of the suspects was crying. The student said he did not have any money and started to jog. On of the suspects followed him and said, “ I have a knife and a Taser.” She continued to yell abuse at the victim as he ran to school. As soon as he reached the school the victim told security officers about the incident. Police asked the victim for a physical description of the suspect, and he described her as a possible prostitute. Police are investigating the incident.
