Woodland Park Zoo offering "Zoo Doo" starting Sept. 17
Home gardeners, from casual to serious, have a chance to sink their hands into Woodland Park Zoo’s coveted Zoo Doo. The nutrient-filled Zoo Doo can be purchased Saturday, September 17 at Woodland Park Zoo.
Zoo Doo will also be available for pickup Saturday, October 15.
Zoo Doo is a great way to garden clean and healthy for the benefit of pollinators and other local wildlife and is a sustainable green choice. The compost is so extraordinary that the zoo’s horticulture experts also use it throughout the zoo in its award-winning animal habitats and other landscaped areas.
Woodland Park Zoo has been turning out Zoo Doo for nearly 40 years.
Thanks to the generosity and support from the Sunderland Foundation, a revolutionary makeover was done in 2019 to the Zoo Doo compost system. Support from Microsoft has also contributed to system improvements. The modifications now make it possible for Dr. Doo, aka the Princess of Poo, the GM of BM, or the Captain of Caca, to produce more of the highly coveted compost year round.
And don’t forget the animals, of course! Zoo Doo is composed of species feces pooped by a variety of the zoo’s non-primate herbivores including tapirs, pudus, mountain goats, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, zebras and more. The sweet, aromatic Zoo Doo is perfect for growing veggies and annuals.
