As the global soccer community turns its attention to the Pacific Northwest, the King County Department of Local Services and White Center Pride are partnering to host “Gather for Goals,” a free community watch party and street festival. This public celebration will take place in the heart of White Center on Friday, June 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m..
The event will transform a three-block stretch of 16th Avenue SW—from SW Roxbury Street south to SW 100th Street—into a vibrant pedestrian zone. Attendees can watch matches from the world’s largest soccer competition on one of five giant screens positioned throughout the festival grounds.
The June 26 broadcast schedule includes the following matchups:
- Norway vs. France
- Senegal vs. Iraq
- Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia
- Uruguay vs. Spain.
“The Gather for Goals watch party and festival is a chance to celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event while highlighting everything that makes White Center such a vibrant and special community,” said Leon Richardson, Director of the Department of Local Services. White Center Pride President Eliot Hills added that the organization is "always game to help bring more joy, inclusion and togetherness" to the neighborhood.
Beyond the matches, the festival will showcase White Center’s diverse local culture. Event-goers can enjoy:
- Local Flavors: Dozens of street food vendors, alongside local restaurants and shops open for business.
- Family Fun: A dedicated kids area featuring face painting and balloon artists.
- Shopping: Merchandise from local vendors and neighborhood retailers.
Logistics and Transportation
To accommodate the festival, 16th Avenue SW will be closed to vehicle traffic during the event. Organizers strongly encourage attendees to take public transit. While coordination for nearby event parking is underway, further details will be released as the date approaches.
