Police Blotter Week of 6.8.09: Martyr against drunk drivers
Mon, 06/08/2009
At 3rd Northwest and Northwest 62nd a Ballard man noticed that a fellow driver was slumped over the wheel. Thinking the man was drunk, he pulled in front of the driver and slowed down in an effort to make the impaired man stop. The plan worked—the driver did slow down and eventually stop—but he also managed to ram the Samaritan's car twice. The victim took the opportunity to reach into the suspect's car and remove the keys until officers could arrive. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault, DUI, property damage, and obstruction.
Wednesday, in the 12500 block of 7th Northwest, a teen mowing his lawn allegedly/intentionally ran over the head of the neighbor's dog which was peering through a ground level opening in a fence separating the properties. The suspect said he wasn't sure if he had hit the dog. His father's response? The “vicious” dog barks all the time. (The officer's report states that the dog did not seem vicious.)The pet underwent $2,000 worth of surgery to repair its lower jaw.
In other pet news, around 10 p.m. Tuesday, a silver Audi station wagon careened around a corner near Salmon Bay Park and hit a parked car. It went on to hit puppy that was walking on a leash with its owner. It then sped off eastbound on 70th Northwest. The dog was taken to the emergency vet. The car and its occupants remain at large.
At an apartment complex in the 300 block of Northwest 85th, a man hanged his shirt out to dry on dead tree branch in the garden. A fellow resident came home drunk, grabbed the jacket and threw it on the ground, yelling that it was damaging the flowers. (No damage was evident.) As the plant lover passed the complainants apartment, he kicked the door.
On May 31, officers responded to a disturbance between a mother and daughter at the Holman Road QFC. The girl didn't want to go home with her mom (there is a recorded history of family dysfunction), so she was transported to a relative's house in Shoreline. When she went to school the following day, she told administrators that she was afraid of her mother and would absolutely not go home after school. A DSHS employee took custody of the girl due to a pattern of “abuse and neglect of a child.”
On Monday morning, an employee of the Ballard Burger King called 911 to report a man on the floor of a bathroom stall. He was directed by the operator to open the stall door. He followed up his report by saying that the man was surrounded by narcotics paraphernalia. (He also had a syringe stuck in his arm.) Medics transported the man to Harborview for treatment.
In the 6000 block of Sycamore Northwest, a man woke up and found his 17-year-old son slumped in front of the computer. He had trouble waking the boy up. Once aroused, the boy stuttered and stammered. On the computer screen? An article that gave instructions for getting high on sleeping pills. The boy was transported to Harborview for treatment.
