A 67-year-old man with five aliases apparently mistook the QFC for SIR (Seattle International Raceway) on Monday afternoon. Seated in his electric wheelchair, he sped down an aisle, knocked over a display, which fell on a grandma, who landed on top of her 1-year-old grandchild. But wait, there's more: When he reached into his pocket for ID, several items he had shoplifted fell to the floor. He was escorted from the premises and and trespassed from the store. The grandmother and grandchild didn't appear to suffer serious injury.
An officer ran a license plate check on a car and discovered the vehicle was listed as stolen from Chehalis. He pulled the car over at 37thand Fauntleroy, and it was impounded without incident. As a bonus, the three occupants were wanted: one on a $5,000 warrant from Seattle Municipal Court, one on a $5,000 warrant for DUI from King County, and the third—a no-bail felony warrant—for escape from community custody. The driver will also be investigated for auto theft.
Around 8 p.m. Saturday, two armed Hispanic males robbed a store in the 4400 block of 36th. Both wore oversized, heavy clothing, hats, gloves and scarves pulled up over their faces. They stole $500 cash, cigars and lighters. Several witnesses saw the suspects running from the scene.
Near the same time, two women entered the Radio Shack on California Avenue Southwest. One tried to buy a cell phone with a credit card that was declined, while her accomplice managed to walk out of the store with four MP3 players and three digital cameras. The two had also been seen at the Westwood Village Radio Shack and had been chased away after another suspected theft. They left the area in a black Range Rover. One is an obese black female with hair in twists of purple and black. The other is a black female who had a pony tail and wore gray sweats.
Monday afternoon in the Junction, a man was attacked by a teenager who disapproved of his parking in a handicapped spot. (The driver did have a handicapped sticker, as he was escorting his elderly handicapped friend on her shopping errands.) First the teen confronted the driver and, when told to mind his own business, he hit the older man eight times. When the man fell to the ground, the teen kicked him in the head. The suspect is a white male with a slim build, aged 14-15, with short brown hair. He wore a white and red coat. He was accompanied by two teen friends—a boy and a girl—who did not attack the victim.
A woman reports that a check was stolen from her mailbox in the 7100 block of 32nd Avenue Southwest and “washed” to create a new payee. She is providing a copy of the check to fraud detectives.
A West Seattle woman was booked into King County Jail after she tried to cash a stolen bank check for $1,200 at the Junction. It turns out she was also wanted on two warrants from Tukwila.
A 12 year old was walking to a friend's home in the Admiral area when he was approached by three teens near the McDonald's. They asked if he wanted to “smoke weed” and, when he declined and kept walking, they ran up, pushed him and smacked him in the face. He was able to run away.
Near the Morgan Junction early Saturday, a man in a wheelchair intervened when he saw a man assaulting a woman in a parking lot. The suspect ran off. The suspect and victim have a history of domestic violence.
After smashing into a rockery at 49th and Admiral early Saturday, a 17-year-old girl was taken into custody when officers detected the strong smell of intoxicants on her breath. After taking breath tests she was released to her parent's custody and was cited for DUI and negligent driving in the 1st degree.
