Police Blotter Week of 10.19.09: Admiral hot spot
Mon, 10/19/2009
When a Metropolitan Market employee confronted a shoplifter who had been brought to the office, the suspect managed to throw “extremely hot” water in the employee's face before trying to escape. In a struggle, the suspect injured his knee and was taken to the ground. Medics provided the employee with ice packs for his face; the suspect explained he was wanted on a warrant and didn't want to go back to jail. A records check showed that he had been convicted of second-degree assault and was wanted on an assault with sexual motivation warrant. He was booked into King County Jail.
Just before 4 a.m. on Oct. 12, a man noticed two fellows trying to remove the tires of a car parked in the 3200 block of 48th Avenue Southwest. He called 911 and then confronted the two, who sped off in what turned out to be a stolen car. Officers quickly caught up with the pair in the 4200 block of Southwest Dawson. One suspect fled; the other said he would “take the fall” for everything and wouldn't “rat” on his friend. The 48-year-old was booked into King County Jail for investigation of auto theft and theft of auto accessories.
On a recent afternoon, in the 7600 block of California Ave Southwest, officers stopped to speak with two men who said they were going door-to-door selling magazines. Neither had the appropriate licenses and officers advised that they couldn't continue to hawk their wares. Both were wanted—one in Colorado for simple assault; the other in California for counterfeiting—but neither warrant was extraditable. They were released at the scene. Two other would-be magazine salesmen were arrested in the 6300 block of 45th. Neither had licenses, and they had been seen knocking on doors and peering through in-door mailboxes.
A local company has gathered evidence showing that one of its employees has been double-charging customer credit cards for services and pocketing the extra cash. An investigation is ongoing.
Around 4 a.m. in South Park, an officer pulled into a bar's parking lot after noticing a lone vehicle with its engine running and a male slumped over in the driver's seat. And though all of the windows were rolled up, the officer could hear the radio from over ten feet away. The man was barely able to climb from the car and explained that he had called his brother and was waiting for a ride. In a search of the man, officers had found a cell phone, but it was broken. The man agreed to take sobriety tests to prove that he was capable of “being in physical control of a motor vehicle.” But before he could prove his worthiness, he passed out in the back of the patrol car.
Twelve instances of domestic violence were reported in greater West Seattle last week.
