Earle Addis joined his lifelong childhood buddies, aka the Alki Rats, July 7, 2012. Born May 3, 1923 to Francis Runkle Addis and Loyd Addis, Earle grew up in West Seattle near Alki Beach. He joined the Navy days prior to graduating from West Seattle HS to serve his country during WWII.

After the war he returned home and married the love of his life, Barbara Duncan with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage May 30, 2012. He retired in 1987 after 37 years serving GE as the regional trainer for appliance repairmen.

During his retirement he enjoyed walking and having coffee with friends and, as was typical of Earle, making new friends along the way. He spent summers with Barbara and his family at their beach cabin on Vashon Island and developed strong ties with great neighbors.

Perhaps his greatest joy was attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events as well as other major celebrations in their lives. He truly was the ultimate family man.

He leaves behind his wife Barbara, his daughters Kathy (Jim) Nakata, Jill (Dave) Ashbaugh, and Julie (Scott) Addis-Smith. His grandchildren are Jamie, Kris and Cameron Nakata; Meg, Charlie and Andy (Megan) Ashbaugh; and Connor (Jamie) and Joel Smith. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild. Greg (Dianne) Brooks, number 4, was an honorary son as his daughters adopted their childhood friend as their brother.

Earle had the greatest sense of humor and was one of the most gregarious and helpful persons you will ever meet. If you were lucky enough to cross his path, you can honor him by paying these gifts forward.

A private ceremony was held at Tahoma National Cemetery, Monday, July 16th.
