Barbara SPOONER-MILLER

In the loving company of her four daughters, Barbara Spooner-Miller passed peacefully away Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Nearly 95 years old, Barbara will be dearly remembered as a passionate artist, world traveller, committed teacher, good friend and loving mother. Born in San Francisco in 1917, she lived in many places including Paris and La Rochelle, France and Oaxaca, Mexico. Barbara loved traveling and visited such places as Egypt, Tanzania, Costa Rica, and many European countries. She moved to Seattle in 1980 to be near her family.

Barbara graduated from Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn, New York in 1937 as a fashion illustrator. Later she received her Master’s in Art Education from the Illinois Institute of Technology and taught for 25 years including 7 years at Seattle South Community College. Her art (bold and colorful watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings) has been exhibited throughout the United States and in France. To see a story about a recent West Seattle show of Barbara’s art go to: http://www.westseattleherald.com/2010/09/09/features/93-year-old-artist…

In addition to her daughters, Barbara is survived by a large family of grand- and great grand-children. She will be remembered in so many ways – her love of white daisies, her sharp one-liners, her bold art, her passion for everything French, her fierce game of Scrabble and so much more. We miss you mom.
