John David CONROY
April 7, 1924 ~ May 26, 2012
John “Jack” Conroy, son of the late Giles and Grace (Martin) Conroy, graduated from West Seattle HS in 1942, enlisted in the Army Air Force in May 1943, and was honorably discharged in January 1946. John married his high school sweetheart, Peggy (Ella Margaret Mades), March 29, 1946.

He worked at Atlas and White Trucking as a journeyman mechanic, belonged to the International Association of Machinists Union #289 since 1946, then was a Washington State Fish & Game Department patrol officer, spending many years on the “MV Virginia;” was a draftsman for hydraulic engineering company; worked for Highline Occupational Skills Center, teaching high school seniors hands on training skills. He retired in the early 80’s to care, with Peggy, for their son, Walter, critically injured in auto accident.

As a young boy he was very drawn to music and dance. He treasured his hours of accordion music, with Peggy playing the piano. Peggy and Jack were avid square dancers, as well as round dancers. They belonged to the Alki-dip-n-divers, West Side Wheelers and caravanned to many other groups during their 65 years of square dancing. Their yearly trips to national square dance competitions were their greatest joy, as well as their many cruises with their dance groups.

Peggy (d. 11-28-2007) and Jack are survived by their son, Walter John Conroy and daughters, Claire Conroy and Kay Joet (Scott) Turner; grandsons, John, Rawleigh, David, Mitch and Josh; granddaughters, Celena and Mia; and many great-grandchildren.

The family had a private celebration of John’s life, with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
