Alice “Betty” DAHL 1925 - 2012

Betty Dahl, 87, passed from this life Monday, October 29, 2012 at Fidalgo Care Center in Anacortes with her daughter, Krista and her loving caregivers by her side.

Betty was born May 16, 1925 in Spokane, WA to Irene and Clifford Vawter. The family lived in Spokane until Betty was in her teens, when they moved to Seattle. Betty graduated from Roosevelt High School. While in high school, she met Halvor Dahl. They became high school sweethearts. On September 20, 1943, at the age of 18, she married Hal.

Hal joined the US Navy, serving six years. The young couple traveled with the Navy, beginning in Norman, OK, where they married. After six years of service, they returned to Seattle, where they purchased a home in West Seattle and raised their three children, Norman, Krista, and Karen. Summers were spent with friends on Guemes Island and camping while Hal fished and hunted. After Hal retired in 1984, he and Betty traveled, before moving to Guemes, living in an A-Frame on the west beach. After several years on Guemes, in early 1990 they decided to stay in the area and built a home in Anacortes, over-looking the Guemes channel. After 64 years of marriage, Hal died in October 2007. With her health declining, Betty moved into the Fidalgo Care Center where she spent her remaining years.

Betty enjoyed the life of a homemaker. She loved to knit, was an expert seamstress, and enjoyed needlepoint. She also loved to cook and was well known for her wonderful pies. She was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in West Seattle and Christ Episcopal Church in Anacortes. She was a member of the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital Guild and the St. John’s Women’s Guild for many years.
Betty is survived by her children, Norman Dahl and wife Cynthia Stewart of Olympia, WA, Krista and Clancy Lien of Oak Harbor, and Karen Dahl of Sherman Oaks, CA; grandchildren, Eric Dahl, Katy Thomason, Nicholas Lassey, Spencer Lien, and Julian Dahl; and great-grandchildren, Ihly and Harris Thomason.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church, Anacortes. Friends and family can offer condolences and share memories utilizing the Memory Book: www.wallinfuneralhome.com.
