Our beloved mother, Barbara Smith, passed peacefully away in her sleep January 17, 2013. She was born July 18, 1922 and spent most of her 90 years as a faithful resident of West Seattle. After proudly graduating as a West Seattle High School Indian in 1940, she briefly worked in a clerical position at a charcoal factory before she became a US Navy Wave. While stationed in Louisiana, she met Richard (Dick) Smith, a young Marine who would become her husband and love of her life for the next fifty years.

Barbara or Bobby as she was known by many, remained a dedicated member of the West Seattle Alumni Association where she coordinated reunions as well as monthly lunch get togethers at the Chelan Cafe.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dick, and is survived by her loving children, Gary (Jennifer) Smith, Dotty Mahaffey and Wayne (Carol) Smith, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The endearing memory of her sweet smile and delightful sense of humor, along with her incredible capacity for kindness and dignity, will stay with us forever. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the West Seattle High School Alumni Association.
