Colleen Cody, 86, of Seattle, known to her friends as Connie, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, January 18, 2013 at Providence Marionwood in Issaquah, WA.
Born February 23, 1926 in Provo, Utah, the daughter of Leland Pratt Silver and Mary Greer Silver, Connie was raised in Provo. As a young woman, Connie was an active volunteer in the USO during WWII and worked at a local military hospital. She married Larch G. Cody in 1944 and had two daughters. The family moved to Washington in 1958.
Some of the highlights of Connie’s professional career were working at the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Washington State Legislature in which Connie was chairperson responsible for the formation of the first Medic One program in Washington, The King County Safety Council, The Washington Society of CPA’s, Windermere Realty, and as a Grayline tour guide. She was also involved with the Toastmistress International Association.
Among her hobbies, interests, and talents, Connie was an artist and an antique Victorian Postcard art collector. A voracious reader, she loved novels, current affairs in the newspapers, and all the latest from Hollywood. She was involved in local politics. She loved the city view from her West Seattle home with all the beauty of Puget Sound and the neighboring mountains. Her love of the city, its surroundings and history, made her one of Graylines best tour guides. She was an avid Mariner’s fan.
Connie had a great love of genealogy based on her Mormon heritage. Her family lineage is an exciting walk through history for all who read her studies. She loved listening to “Il Divo” music which prompted her to take Spanish lessons to understand all the lovely words of the songs. A lady of many talents and loves, her greatest love was her family which she held so dear. The most wonderful remembrance she gave to all was the kindness and love conveyed by her beautiful smile, which will long be remembered.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kathleen Cody Hardy (John) of Redmond, WA and Eileen Cody Evetts (Edward) of Kent, WA; five grandchildren, David Hardy (Stefania), Brian Hardy (Erika), Dr. Steven Hardy, Erin Evetts and Emma Evetts; five great-grandchildren, Ben, Lachlan, Luke, Malloy, and Jackie.
The family suggests remembrances to the St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, MT (www.StLabre.org) a longtime favorite charity of Connie's.
