Seavuria is holding a Life Straw Benefit for the children in Kenya tonight Dec. 12 at Brunette Mix 4306 S.W. Oregon from 6-9 pm.

There will be a film showing the necessary help to provide clean water in Kenya.

With just a donation of $7 you can buy a Life Straw that will give one child clean water for a year.

SeaVuria is a 501c3 dedicated to connecting students and teachers across the globe, striving to create global awareness and sustainable partnerships.

Using STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curricula collaboratively designed by teachers, SeaVuria engages students in the Seattle-area and Kenya in synchronous studies designed to foster collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving. Global health scientists mentor students over the web, offering career information and cutting edge science ideas.

Through a common science curriculum, developed by their teachers, students on both sides of the globe tested local water sources and compared data; they conducted a series of investigations to learn the importance of water purification and were assessed on their ability to clean that water. Communication skills were honed through an exchange of emails and digital stories. Students were asked to think about economic, geographical and social justice issues. Local scientist shared their cutting edge research. First hand stories from local Kenyans shared the realities of the devastating effects to families and communities caused by lack of infrastructure, poor sanitation, and exposure to disease. As a culmination to the unit all students, develop an action project to address an issue that resonated with them. These action projects were powerful and inspiring. The influence of this project is best described by two of the participating teachers in the video above.
