Criminals attempted to break in to the West Seattle Arcade early Saturday morning at 4:20am.
Owners Matt and Elyssa Cichy said, "Three men pulled up in a grey Hyundai with no plates, and attempted to pry open our door and pick our lock. They were unsuccessful and scared off by people that were out and about. Our wonderful neighbor saw the attempt and called the police and then notified us.
In addition to the attempted break-in at West Seattle Arcade, Alki Beach has seen a few notable incidents recently:
-
Armed Robbery: On July 15 around 10:45 p.m., two people were held at gunpoint near 61st Avenue SW and Alki Avenue SW. The suspects stole a wallet and phone before fleeing in a sedan. Police believe the same suspects may have committed another robbery earlier that night in North Seattle.
-
Burglary at Alki Coffee Co.: Just hours after the armed robbery, suspects used stolen keys to enter the café through a back door. They triggered the alarm and stole a safe and cash drawer, totaling about $2,000 in losses. No arrests have been made yet.
-
Violent Crash: On July 16, a speeding driver sent a woman’s car into Elliott Bay. She was seriously injured, and residents voiced concerns about street safety and lack of enforcement. The incident has reignited calls for more patrols and traffic calming measures.
-
Attempted Home Invasion: On July 11, a woman fought off a man who tried to push his way into her home while her child was inside. The suspect threw a can at her before fleeing. Police are still investigating.
Despite these incidents, Seattle PD reports that overall crime at Alki Beach dropped about 50% in May and June compared to last year5. Still, residents and business owners remain on edge, especially during the busy summer season
