The good people at the West Seattle Junction Association are seeking volunteers to help with the Beyond The Cart Recycling event on March 21
West Seattle residents are encouraged to clear out their garages and closets for the upcoming Beyond the Cart Reuse and Recycling Collection event scheduled for Saturday, March 21. The event, which runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, provides a specialized disposal option for items that cannot be processed through standard curbside recycling bins.
This year’s collection features a new location to accommodate participants. The event will be held in the South Seattle College – South Parking Lot, located at 6000 16th Ave SW, just past the intersection of SW Morgan Street and 16th Ave SW. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Waste Management, and The Junction.
What to Bring
Organizers have specified a wide range of household items eligible for drop-off. Accepted materials include:
- Electronics & Appliances: Small electronics such as TVs, computers, and cellphones, as well as small non-freon appliances.
- Household Items: Good condition clothing, bedding, curtains, home goods, and toys.
- Hard-to-Recycle Materials: Small propane canisters, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, household batteries, and polystyrene foam blocks.
- Document Shredding: Residents may bring up to four boxes of paper for secure shredding.
Prohibited Items
To ensure efficient processing, several items are strictly prohibited. These include furniture, mattresses, AC units, car seats, and hazardous waste. Additionally, the event cannot accept automotive or construction waste, bicycles, CRT tube TVs, or fabrics that are stained, ripped, or worn out. Standard household recycling, compost, and garbage should continue to be handled through regular curbside services.
Event Logistics
Organizers have designed a specific traffic flow to manage the event at its new site. Drivers should enter at the "green star" marked on event maps, follow the red arrows, and park in the designated blue square area. Once parked, staff members will be available to assist residents in transporting their items to the collection trucks.
