The Alki Elementary School project team is reporting significant progress this April as the campus continues its transformation. Over the past month, crews have reached several major milestones, including the completion of interior casework and tiling on Level 3, as well as the installation of the building's elevator.
Project officials noted that the school now has permanent power and water. Other completed tasks include Level 1 acoustical treatments, interior lighting, electrical trim, and the programming of building system automation wiring.
Next Steps: Exterior and Community Spaces
As the project moves forward, the team is shifting focus to exterior concrete site work and finishes within the Alki Community Center. Neighbors can expect to see wood wall panels being installed in the gymnasium and hallways, while mechanical and electrical systems begin their startup phase. Upcoming work will also include the construction of a soldier pile wall at the south site and new sidewalks at 59th Ave. SW.
Neighborhood Impact and Safety
While the South Alki Playground is currently closed for several months for improvements, the Whale Tail Park to the north remains open for community use.
To ensure the safety of students and residents, the following measures are in place:
- Work Hours: Standard hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, though occasional night or weekend work may occur in compliance with City of Seattle ordinances.
- Deliveries: Truck deliveries typically occur 4–5 days per week between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM, primarily via Admiral Way to 59th Street.
- Sidewalk Closures: The sidewalk on the east side of the site remains closed throughout construction.
- Security: The site is under video surveillance and monitored by on-site security personnel.
