It's open.. at least until the construction of the Skate-Dot begins at Morgan Junction Park. Seattle Parks took the fences down and people can now stroll the grounds.

Neighbors in West Seattle can finally step onto the long-awaited expansion of Morgan Junction Park. Seattle Parks and Recreation has removed the fencing around the .47-acre parcel immediately north of the existing park, marking a major milestone in a project over a decade in the making.
The site, located at 6401 California Ave SW, is now open as a remediated grass area, providing interim public access before the second phase of construction begins.
A Clean Slate for the Community
The opening follows the completion of extensive environmental work. Purchased in 2014, the expansion site required significant soil remediation due to contamination from a historic dry-cleaner. Throughout 2025, crews worked to remove hazardous soil, install shoring, and backfill and re-grade the lot.
The site was subsequently hydroseeded, and with the grass now established, the department has followed through on its mid-spring 2026 goal to open the space for community use.
What’s Next: Phase II and the "Skate-Dot"
While the fences are down for now, the park’s transformation is far from finished. This interim opening serves as a bridge to Phase II, which will see the site undergo full construction.
Design teams are currently updating plans to meet modern drainage, accessibility, and right-of-way requirements. A key highlight of the upcoming permanent design is the inclusion of a "skate-dot"—a small skatepark feature. The Seattle City Council added $700,000 to the project budget in late 2025 specifically for this addition.
The Morgan Junction All Wheels Association (MJAWA) continues to work closely with the city to ensure the skate-dot and overall park design reflect community needs.
Visiting the Park
The existing portion of Morgan Junction Park remains open and fully operational during this transition, featuring its standard landscaping and benches. The park continues to observe its normal operating hours from 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m..
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the new green space while it remains open in this interim state, as it will eventually close again briefly when full-scale construction for the final park design commences
